CR You have a wonderful website. This is my first visit. The time lapse video is great. The Point museum has been waiting on AEP to do one from Huntington to Point Pleasant.

I was in Pt. Pleasant WV on Sunday and saw M/V Mary Ellen Jones make this amazing turn (considering what she was pushing) from the Kanawha River to the Ohio River (southbound). I was trying to learn more about these people and their vessel. Your site is the only one that has anything listed. I'll keep looking. Do you want me to send you a couple of the photos via e-mail?

Thank you for such a nice site. I found the old pics of the Belleville WV dam which is now underwater. My grandfather worked there and was a diver. I think it was in the 30-40's. I remember going to the lock and having picnics. Grandpa lost 3 fingers from diving and clearing jammed gears. Thanks so much for the pics!! Enjoyed them so much.

Good selection of Ohio River boats. Did not see the Mack Gamble. I worked on the Quarto II when it was at North American coal #7 mine.

Having lived in Charleston for over 21 years, and frequently strolling along the Kanawha River, I've always been intrigued by the various towboats and have often wondered what life working aboard one of these vessels must be like. So I particularly enjoyed your recent photos from the Vernon C. Smith, especially the living and dining quarters.

Love the river, grew up here.. can't leave... LOVE the links , I like to track the boats I see coming and going on the river front... GOT you Bookmarked. Handle is Tugboatannie... cause my dad was a journalist who wrote about the river in the Gallipolis tribune.. He loved the river, instilled that love in me... and My name came from the tugboat.. the Cheryl Ann... on the show.. with tugboatannie.. who was the captain... (Preston Foster was in the show). Dad helped build boats at the Marietta Manufacturing plant during the war.. SO, there you go... I appreciate your work!

My son and I are building some towboat and barges we really enjoy the quality of you pictures. He (6 yr old) was intrigued with the damage done to barges stuck in the dam. The sizes of real equipment interests him greatly. Our location is about 1hr from Welland Canal ( a trip this summer is planned). Thank you for all your work in your photos.

Great site and really good sharp pictures. I am mostly interested in Snake and Columbia River ships. However, I once had a very good friend who lived right on the banks of the Kanawha River in Charleston. We could sit on his back porch and wave to the tugs going by not over a 100 yards away. Keep up the good work.

Just surfing to see the pages. I worked on the river for 11 years as a cook and have written a short book about it. It's listed on the PublishAmerica website. I enjoyed your boat pictures, makes me homesick. I was wondering if you worked on the river at one time. You seem to know a lot about it. Keep up the good work, you've done a great job. I really enjoyed it. Susan

Loved those shots of the runaway barges out of Pittsburgh. Truly hope no one was hurt as a result of it. Boy could we have used some of that coal. Does anyone have a pile or two of anthracite sitting on the banks anywhere that's just going to seed? We could putt'r to some 'good' service <smile> Wanna-know, Walt.

Very interesting site with high quality photos! Inland shipping is a hobby for me, started 40 years ago with river Rhine, later also Danube. In 1995 I rented a car and followed Mississippi River from Davenport to New Orleans. In 2001 and 2004 I visited China (Yangtse a.o.). Your site is one of the better sites in the world. I'm a frequent visitor.

Great website and great photos. I've loved towboats ever since my dad owned 4 of them in Galveston, TX during the 1950s-early 60s. I rode them until my 20s. Still like to go watch them go by on the Texas City dike and Houston Ship channel. Keep those great photos coming!

Good coverage of the loss of the Belleville pool, probably a once-in-a-lifetime event. The written commentary really adds to the value of the photos.

Mr. Neale, Great pictures of the barges and boats at the dam and locks. Like Ronald & others stated, thanks for sharing them will all of us. Great to see something we may never see again, lock 20. I worked on OBL boats in the late 60's early 70's. The doubles we made were Emsworth, Dashields, Montgomery,12,13,14,15 and sometimes 16, all before Hannibal. Keep up the good work, my dad and I enjoy the pictures, he worked for OBL for 38 years and J&L after the war...steamboat years.

You have a really great river site. I would like to thank you for taking the time and effort to share your river pictures. Having grown up and working on the river in times past your pictures helps me to revisit and keep current on the towboats. I too photograph the boats when I have the opportunity to be around the river.

Real nice site, enjoy looking at the pics.

Thank You for sharing your photos. I grew up on the rivers around Pittsburgh. My Grandfather, Dad and Uncles built, owned and worked on towboats most of their lives.
